Knife Sharpening with Community Cutlery

Knife Sharpening with Community Cutlery

Gaz from Community Cutlery is our go-to knife sharpener. Why? Because he is the best at what he does, and he’s a really great guy to work with.

A blunt knife is not only challenging to use, it’s frustrating too. Hacking away at your favourite joint of meat is only going to end badly. A sharp knife can be a game changer, that instant ‘wow’ and pleasure it brings as it glide through your meal preparation. It’s safer too. How many times have you put all your force onto a blunt knife - definitely not the safest of knife skills.

If you are into food nowadays chances are you have a couple of ’special knives’ that you are proud to own and to use when preparing something tasty to eat. After time the blades will start to become more dull. By looking after your knives and learning how to sharpen knives correctly, well it’s a skill that will last a lifetime.

This doesn’t just apply to knives of course there are scissors, secateurs, hatchets, cleavers, loppers, shears, chisels and any number of other carpentry and woodworking tools. A keen edge is an absolute must when using a knife or bladed tool, it not only enables it to do a better job and faster it also makes using it so much more pleasurable!

To get the most out of your Walled Garden School workshop Gaz will show you how to traditionally sharpen your knives using a whetstone. Although this can be tricky, our aim is that you leave confident enough to try this at home. Gas will guide you on how to use the whetstone properly and make your blade edges smooth and sharp.
